The best thing that happened to me all semester is I got a chance to do some networking for an internship at unlikely place. So I may have an internship over the summer which would be very nice. The worst thing that has happened to me is: it is one of those take your pick situations. I guess if I had to pick though it would be watching my oldest dog get older!!! She don’t get up so well anymore.time management has been the best lesson I have learned so far. I have something going on everyday of the week. Learning to balance dogs, school, work and myself is a challenge. As far as doing something for the rest of my life; I hope it’s my major…lol

•February 25, 2008 • Leave a Commentthe thing I have read that has stuck with me this semester is not actually school related. It was an article in the paper about banning sugar gliders. A sugar glider is a small mouse looking animal that are difficult to take care of. They require a lot of attention. This article said that they wanted to ban this tiny creature like the want to ban dogs that they consider “dangerous breeds”.I think this is crap!!! Dogs and sugar gliders are not dangerous, only the owners are!!! If the people do not properly care for their pets then yes they can be dangerous. What needs to be monitored are the people purchasing these animals. Something similar to when a pure breed owner sells pups. Most will come and check out the home and do a lengthy interview. This is how we stop accidently biting and crap like that. Don’t punish the many because of the few !I hope this is all I needed to write. It something about “see the other side” but there is nothing on the back of my sheet.

•February 23, 2008 • Leave a CommentSo far the most interesting work I have seen is the Tech Tronic exhibition at Franklin Art works. It is one of those things that you have to read about to really understand but this artist took the classic movie “The Birds” by Alfred Hitchcock and broke it down into 16 parts. I guess there are 16 speaking parts. Then he set it up so that 16 people, each with a different part, watched with the sound off to see their reactions. This was about breaking down a piece of work and the reactions when something is removed from that piece. Some feel asleep, others found something else to do and some tried their best to watch intently.I was most interested in the idea of breaking down a work into the simplest forms to see the differences. I guess to break down my work would mean using each individual item as the only subject in a photo. Line each photo on the wall to show to one group of people. Then putting all those items into one photo and show to a different group to see the reaction. How similar or different would they be? Maybe someday it will be a final project for class.

He stands out to me because I thought that he seemed unprepared. Although his art rocked it was pretty boring. It felt like he was pitching for a job. He just showed his work and then asked if we had any questions. There was no process explain or options we had if we wanted our own business. If felt like he came to intimidate, “hey look at what I can do, it is awesome, I am your competition”. Another student had asked how they go about choosing which project is the final project. I absolutely disliked his answer which was: everyone goes back to their work space does a pitch then his choice is the final choice. I am not sure if it the way he said that or the vibe but it just seemed like “yeah, I am the man”.It basically showed me what not do if I ever get invited to be a guest speaker.

•February 22, 2008 • Leave a CommentIf I could choose a project to redo I think it would be this one. For some reason I keep forgetting to do these blogs…lol!Okay, seriously, it would have to be a project I did for my Digital class. We had to do self portraits using what we know in Photoshop which for me is not a lot. It is after I have completed a project that I always come up with something that I think is better. It was the background of this print that I knew was bad but still couldn’t come up with anything that I thought was good for it. After crit there were a few suggestions that I took into consideration and am currently redoing that project. This particular project made me realize that I need to pay more attention to details and brainstorm.

•February 20, 2008 • Leave a CommentTime management and work are things that are hard to manage when a full time student. I never seem to have enough time and find myself up really late. I get up early, go to school, work, take care of my pets and there is really no time left for myself. I take the 15 mins for this class to sit in silence and think. It is really the only time I have for myself. Things that have tripped me up this semester is that I under estimated the amount of homework assigned from each class. It seems like every class I have assigns 5x the work load you would think it would be.This is what I have learned: I am a slow worker. I like to take my time and get it right which causes the sleep deprivation and probably the feeling of too much homework. Also I am horrible at saving my project after each step. I get into what I am doing and forget.
Monday on a Tuesday
•February 20, 2008 • Leave a CommentYes, yes I am typing this on a Tuesday for Mondays assignment. Guess I should have read it yesterday but didn’t so here it is.Monday:I think that finishing each class with a decent grade will be my biggest accomplishment. But if I had to say then it is trying to learn Photoshop in my digital class. Each class presents something different and usually final projects are a big accomplishment so when I get there I will let you know!In life it is going back to school later in life. Here is what I have learned so far. Like stated above, each class presents something different. Whether I like the class or not I always learn something different. In going back to school later in life, it has it’s ups and downs. The up being that I have more drive to complete it this time around. I also have more life experience which broadens my ideas for projects. The down side to that is life looses some of it’s shine when there is more experience. Things are viewed differently especially if the experiences are not good ones.
Survival
•February 3, 2008 • Leave a CommentIt is important to remeber that if your fish is not the one you want to keep forever and ever mounted on your wall please release them back into the water. Let multiple for more future fishing. We want to preserve!!!
Here are the safe ways to release your fish:
use barbless hooks
use plyers to safely remove any hooks
always use wet hands and wet cloths in handling your fish
if you can aviod lifting fish from water and never put it on hot dry surfaces
it is better to cut the line if you can not remove hook safely
you want to gentle place fish back into water and give it a little push to let it swim away
Lures and Bait
•February 3, 2008 • Leave a CommentThere are so many ways and gear to catch fish. i will list a few thing in the bait and lure area so you can begin your expeditions!
Catfishing:
Bait: chicken liver and medium store bought shrimp seem to be among the favorites- smell apparently works just fine on fish. For younger catfish anything can be used, worms, dead minnows, crayfish, snails or catfish paste. As they get older their taste matures (imagine that). They will feed mainly on other fish so use shrimp, cut bait, minnows and pan fish. Muscle behind a dead pan fish works great. Another good thing to try for catfish is called chumming. It is going to the area you would like to fish and throwing balls of the bait you would like to use. Making your own recipe and trying it out is the best way. For larger catfish use shad. They are shiny little fish. Some lures look like these little fishes. On the lure track bait tubes are good. They release the scent into the water. Bait balls and fake worms are also handy. Bright colors are the way to go.
Muskies:
For live bait large minnows, alive or dead, chubs, suckers, smelt about 5-10 inches long. Leopard Frogs work good for surface fishing. There are so many different lures that trail and error may work best. Here is a list of some:
Crankbait- the neat thing about these is the bill in front, the larger the bill the deeper it goes
Jerkbait- made to resemble and injured shad- used by jerking slightly on the rod
Topwater lures- skim across the top of the water like “torpedos”
Pike:
Use the same live bait as you would for a musky. For lures try-
Spoons-curved, 4-6 inches long, sends vibrations through the water
Spinnerbait-use a larger and thicker lure to catch bigger fish- has propellers on tail or nose that make noise in the water and through a shine to attract
Most of the Musky lures will work for Pike also.
Where to Fish for the Monsters
•February 3, 2008 • Leave a CommentIf you are interested in fishing for these monster muskies, pike or catfish here is the blog about location. Now I don’t only mean states, or countries. I mean actually in the water!!
For Muskies, the best places to fish for them is in the MidWestern states. Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin,Iowa,Ohio, Pennsylvania and Canada. Any of the natural lakes will have muskies but the man made ones will carry a hybrid called the tiger musky. So if you are looking to the catch the “big monster” fishes here is how to prepare.
Download a topographic map of the area you want to fish. Scout out your locations. This applies to all 3 of the monster fishys.
For muskies the best time of year to fish is June and July or September and October. The best time to fish is right before dawn and an hour and a half after dawn. Or an hour before sunset and after. They are most prominent when the water temp is around 70 F. In natural lakes look for an 8 to 20 foot contours near drop-offs and weedy areas. In man made lakes look for weedy areas, drop-offs and brushy structures. Remember these pups are hunters so the right time and place and they will bit at anything! For resorts the have great musky fishing, check out www.fishinfo.com/muskiepages.htm
For Pike fishing you can go to any of the midwest states I listed above, Canada and Great Britian. Again map and scout. Look for weedy areas, beaver houses, sunken trees, rocky areas or where a channel feds into a lake or river. Same months and time of day apply for Pike also.
Here we go with Catfishing. Catfish can be found just about anywhere. US, Canada, Asia, Europe and even Poland! Mostly natural lake and rivers. Look for them in tree areas, drop offs, holes or on the edge of shallow areas also where turns and bends. In spring fish shallow. Catfish often move to deep areas as the day heats up and back to shallow when night comes.
